Let me first apologize if I bore you with too many pictures and videos but this city is just too amazing and the time of year unforgettable not to try and capture the real essence of the season. By shear numbers Toyko is the largest city in the world with over 45 million people in the greater metropolitan area. That is nearly 50% more people than in whole country of Canada. At first a little intimidating to try and figure out but once getting our heads around the train and subway system, I think we've got it covered.
The day started with a river cruise on the Sumida River in the heart of the city. You can see by the video that the day was a blue bird day and a great day for sightseeing. Click on the video for a cruise sampling.
A walk through a local park in the middle of this major center brings a calm over this bustling city. The blossoms are still at their peak but the season will draw to an end soon with rain in the forecast.
Walking through the famous Tokyo Tsujiki Fish Market was colorful and surprisingly the fishy smell was very faint. Fresh fish apparently doesn't smell to any great extent and the meal we had in the local food court was simply delicious. Scallops, shrimp, and a white fish was on the menu and we may go back another day for another go as it was so good.
A fun outing was the crossing of the Shibuya Crossing which apparently can have as many as 1 million people in one day make the multiple crossings. Click on the video for a sampling of what is was like to make the leap of faith.
.
But I guess I would have to say that the highlight of the day was the visit to the Shinjuko Gyoen National Gardens. Click, click, click everywhere. It was just magical. The blossoms are at their peak and we can go home feeling that we got to see what we came for even though we still have another week and more of the spring season to look forward to. I have attached two videos just because I couldn't get enough. There was an artist doing a water colour which was wonderful and I hope you can take a minute to try get a feeling for what it is like. The first video is taken in the Japanese garden section and second was of the tulips in bloom with the blossoms. Click on the following two videos for a walk in the park.
Truly a special day and here are a few more pics to bore you with :)
